The road here
From a Best Buy install van to flagship projects in Singapore.
Wyatt entered the industry in 2003 the honest way — hanging home theaters as an installer, learning what happens to technology after the salesperson goes home. By 2005 he was running his own AV design, installation, and programming practice, and the trade took him a long way from the install van: operating a residential theater company in Narragansett, Rhode Island, while simultaneously engineering and programming for one of the world's leading Crestron and AMX integration firms — with projects across the globe, including a flagship installation in Singapore.
Born in Santa Barbara and raised in Shelburne, Vermont, he came back to the South Coast in 2009. A year later he co-founded Firebird Audio Video with Lennon Wiser, built on the lesson two decades of field work had taught him: the difference between technology that delights and technology that torments is engineering — designed on paper, documented completely, and handed to the client with the keys. Passwords included.
Today Wyatt serves as Firebird's Director of Technology & Design. He holds contractor licenses in multiple states and the industry's highest-level certifications, and every system Firebird builds — Montecito estates, Santa Barbara's commercial landmarks, and everything between — is designed, drawn, and programmed under his direction. He also builds much of the company's own software: the interactive tools on this site — the South Coast's first whole-home cost estimator, 3D theater designer, and the rest — came out of his workshop, not an agency's. They've since set the template for how AV integration is presented in this market; the originals live here.
"I got into this because I love making complicated things feel simple. Twenty years later, that's still the whole job."
